<< So that's the way you see it? >>

Don't you fucking get it? Nobody is going to help you. You aren't making a difference. And your opinion doesn't matter. Could you please for a moment open your eyes and let yourself take a view of the truth? Maybe while you're at it you can cut some of the strings that "the man" uses to keep you tied down.

Nobody is going to help you. Go on, try to send a letter to your congressman. What did you get back? Was it a form letter telling you that your opinion is important to them? Was it a for letter telling you that there is nothing that he (or she, though there are sadly few) can't do anything for you since the problem that you have falls under the jurisdiction of some other department that the senator has no control over? Maybe they just straight up told you to shove it? Well, that last one is decidedly unlikely except in the case of a letter written by a disgruntled mailroom worker or something but it's really more of an honest approach in getting you to not bother them again and get on with your general lifelong boning by "the man."
Writing your congressman to find out that noone wants to help you is more of an individual project. Nationally, it has been a policy since 1982 to cut domestic spending. As a matter of fact, the only area that seems to warrant spending these days is the military. As funds to education dwindle (what sort of respect for the educational system does one expect from a C student president?) and welfare programs see gross cuts that escalate the rising trouble of homelessness in a nation that often seems to consider itself 1st of the 1st world nations. Most recently we have seen the destruction of Hurricane katrina. The fingers have flown and though much coverage has been given to the poor conditions of the levees which protected New Orleans, little has been said about the slashing of federal aid that brought about the lack of maintenance. It seems that specifically and generally the attitude of the government is "Fuck`em." this is especially true if "`em" are poor.
So you went to a protest huh? So you sat down in an intersection and stopped traffic. What happened? The police came in, arrested you, and beat the shit out of you as well if you were unlucky. All in all there is no change in the social order and you've done nothing more than facilitate the violence which it was your goal to stop in the first place. Order was restored in a matter of a few hours. The only people who noticed were those that were jammed up in traffic (they certainly didn't agree with your tactics, or you and your cause by affiliation) the cops (who came to deny you from the first) and the bystanding pedestrians (some of whom felt embarassed for you as you played your drum and sang the same protest song that they heard back in college in 72). So what did you actually accomplish? You feel better, having done something for "the cause" (notice the equal ambiguity to "the man?". You have been placated until the next time when your rebellious spirit feels like strumming another guitar or handing out another socialist leaflet for people to throw into the trash cans that you lobbied so hard to have placed on every street corner (go grass roots movements!). You vote third party in every election since you believe in the power of the people to affect change. But when was the last time your canidate got more than %10 of the vote? Yes, I know that %10 is alot, but when have conservatives ever voted for a Green Party canidate? No, so the left divides itself fragmenting liberalism into subsects and refusing to put up a consolidate front. In the end the bottom line is just like the old saying "if voting really changed things, then it would be illegal."
Let's face it, unless you have a doctrate, everything you say will always be in question. And with the amount of doctors ever increeasing (PhDs, not MDs) and universities giving out doctrates in rock music, even the title of doctor is less esteemed now than it has ever been. In truth it is no longer title or education that make the difference in a speaker's credibility, but appearence and social status. In essence we still operate on the gold rules principle (not "do unto others" one, rather, "He who has the gold makes the rules.") meaning that one can have justice if one can afford it (ever looked into how much lawyer fees are?) and the real way of influencing the political system is campaign contributions and social meet and greet functions.
You've gone and gotten yourself so worked up that you don't realize that it's exactly what "the man" wants. "The man" wants you to feel like you make a difference with your rebellion and protesting. He wants you to join the green party and agree with their slogans so that you won't think for yourself. "The man" needs someone to fight against in order to exist, just as your fight against "the man" fuels your existence. This mistargeted rage is blasted at faraway and indistinct targets that the media has shown us (intentionally or unintentionally) as targets. As we spit our rhetorical attacks on foreign powers and the flaws of our own system we forget the key. Real change comes from within. It is all too simple to take a finger and point it far away to some imagined source, and far harder to take a hand and extend it to those nearest you that you can help? This could go so far as volunteering at your local red cross or homeless shelter or a donation to those bodies if you have it. You could try to make sure that your food comes from growers who pay fair wages. how about buying something small from a street vendor or throwing a few cents to a chalk artist? Maybe you could just making an attempt to be a good and decent human being to all the people you meet? Start by changing yourself and lead the world by example.
