<< truth: the anti-ANTI-drug >>

I was bumming around the internet and decided to check out what the opposition had to say about my favorite drug. (It should be noted that I HATE the oppostion, especially the anti-drug people)

Antidrug.com has a section called "How to make a case against marijuana." I find this incredibly interesting, as it is filled with fallacies and misleading figures and statemnts.

Their counter arguements to "Marijuana is a natural plant, how can it be harmful?: are...

"Smoking marijuana is at least as bad as smoking cigarettes."

This is a common misconception, research that supports this claim compares the smoking of tobbaco leaves to the smoking of marijuana leaves, the problem with this is that the leaves of marijuana aren't smoked, only the bud is. Anyone stupid enough to smoke pot leaves deserves whatever they get.

"It's been proven that it's harder to concentrate and retain information when you've been usuing pot."

Well, duh. Go ahead, smoke a bowl and try to learn something. Pretty fucking hard isn't it. That's because you're in an altered state of conciousness. Being tired or starving will affect you in the exact same way. There is a simple solution to this, don't try to learn shit while stoned, learn it while sober.

Their counter arguement to "marijuana is not addictive" is...

"Sixty percent of teens currently in drug treatment are there because of marijuana."

And the majority of those are put there by the legal system, which wouldn't happen if it wasn't a crime. Many of the rest are likely put there by parents, however I have no information on that.

To counter the statement, "Marijuana can't cause any real problems in the long term," they say...

"if you smoke marijuana, you could do things that jeopardize your future, like having sex or getting in trouble with the law."

Or, you could just do those things anyway without smoking marijuana.

"You could get kicked off the sports team."

Oh man, this is too easy. SO FUCKING WHAT?

and in oppostion to the statement, "Marijuana is not as popular as new drugs like ecstasy." the have...

"More kids use marijuana than any other illicit drug by far."

For once, they and I are in agreement. People should smoke pot, not use ecstasy. There was an episode of "Saved by the Bell" where a movie star comes to the school. The students decide he is a bad person because he smokes pot. For the love of god, he's a movie star, just be happy he isn't snorting coke.

Once again in their stupidity they argue against, "If I smoke Marijuana, I'm not hurting anyone else."

They say...

"Marijuana trafficking is a big, international, often violent business. The people behind it are criminals. If you're smoking pot, you could be hurting other people."

First off, notice the arbitrary words like "could" and "often." Second, it is a big business because it is illegal. No laws, no crime, less money spent on pointless enforcement. Plus licensure and amenity tax exactly the same as alcohol has now.

Basically this whole thing is setup so parents can counter a child's arguements about marijuana. They bank on the hope that the child isn't well informed, that's the key to winning this war, information. To counter the arguement "You smoked pot and turned out fine." They have...

"This isn't about my past-it's about your future. Marijuana is illegal and can be risky."

Anyone notice the arbitrary language again? Not to mention the blatant hypocrisy?

they fell it necesarry to refute the claim, "Marijuana must be good for you; it's medicine."

If I ever hear anyone say this, I will bitch slap them. This isn't an arguement for smoking pot, it's just flawed logic. By this line of thinking, a person should take as many prescriptions as possible, prescribed for them or not. You know what would happen if you did that? That's right, you would die. Don't be as stupid as these people want you to be.
